Church of Agios Georgios

The Church of Agios Georgios is recognizable by its vibrant blue dome, which rises against the white-washed buildings surrounding it. Unlike the large, famous churches nearby, this structure serves as a smaller neighborhood chapel. During the massive earthquake of nineteen fifty-six, the dome suffered significant damage and tumbled to the ground. Local families took charge of the reconstruction, gathering the original stones to rebuild the roof piece by piece to preserve the exact silhouette that had defined their street for generations.
