Playa de Ammoudi

Ammoudi Bay sits at the bottom of the sheer volcanic cliffs beneath Oia, marked by the distinct contrast of its dark, jagged caldera rock against the bright turquoise water. This small harbor served as the primary port for Oia during the nineteenth century, when merchant ships hauled massive quantities of Vinsanto wine and pumice stone from this narrow pier to ports across the Mediterranean. Sailors once moored their boats here, loading cargo by hand while dodging the frequent rockfalls from the towering cliffs above.
