Hellusund is a narrow lane in the center of Reykjavik. It is defined by its steep slope toward the harbor and the cluster of colorful, corrugated iron houses that hug its edges. In the early twentieth century, this street sat at the center of the city’s working-class life. The writer Halldor Laxness lived in a house here for a time, pulling inspiration from the neighbors and the rhythm of the port for the novels that later won him the Nobel Prize.
