Hljómskálagarðurinn

The Hljómskálagarðurinn park wraps around the southern shore of the Tjörnin pond with a cluster of elm and rowan trees that rarely grow this tall in Iceland. It takes its name from the octagonal music pavilion built here in nineteen twenty-three. During the early days of the park, city musicians played brass concerts inside the pavilion while residents strolled the gravel paths. The building eventually served as a practice space for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, keeping the park filled with music for decades.
