Fish Out of Water Mural

A massive, bright orange goldfish floats against a teal background on the side of this Lodhi Colony housing block. The artist, Yantr, painted this piece for the St+art India Foundation in twenty-seventeen. He chose a koi fish to represent the local residents, who often feel like outsiders living in the rigid, government-built grid of the neighborhood. The fish seems to swim through the air, detached from any pond, navigating the concrete landscape just as the people here navigate their own daily routines.
