Bright, house-sized murals coat the walls of these low-slung residential blocks in Lodhi Colony. In twenty-sixteen, the St+art India Foundation turned this neighborhood into India's first open-air public art district. Artists from around the world arrived to paint directly onto the government housing, transforming drab concrete into canvases featuring giant portraits, geometric patterns, and colorful social commentary. The residents of these blocks still go about their daily routines while tourists wander past their balconies, photographing the towering faces painted beside their front doors.
