The two-story wooden structure at Neel Nakazakicho features a distinct dark, weather-beaten facade that stands out against the surrounding concrete buildings. This space functions as a coffee house and gallery, occupying a renovated traditional Japanese townhouse, or nagaya. In the early two thousands, artists began moving into these abandoned structures to establish studios and cafes, effectively preserving the architectural remnants of a post-war neighborhood that largely escaped the firebombings of nineteen forty-five. Its interior retains the original narrow layout and steep staircases.
