Umeda Sky Building

Two glass towers joined at the top by a floating circular deck define the Umeda Sky Building. Architect Hiroshi Hara designed this structure in nineteen ninety-three to represent a city in the sky. While the towers rise independently, the escalator ride to the top level hangs in the open air, suspended between the two buildings by long steel trusses. Thousands of bolts hold the glass panels in place, giving the entire exterior a grid of reflections that change with the passing clouds.
