The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka

The Museum of Oriental Ceramics sits as a low, concrete structure along the banks of the Dojima River, distinguished by its floor-to-ceiling glass windows that mirror the shifting surface of the water. Inside lies the Ataka Collection, a trove of Chinese and Korean ceramics once owned by a failing trading company in the nineteen seventies. When the company collapsed, the city of Osaka kept the collection together through private donations, creating a dedicated home for these specific, fragile vessels of clay.
