Bank of Japan, Osaka Branch

The Osaka Branch of the Bank of Japan features a striking neoclassical facade with tall, ionic columns that command the street corner. Designed by Tatsuno Kingo and completed in nineteen oh three, the structure replaced a former gold refinery. It served as a vital financial hub during Osaka's rapid industrial expansion. When the bank held its grand opening, crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the heavy vault doors and the ornate interior banking hall where the city’s major merchant families conducted their business.
