The Osaka City Central Public Hall wears a facade of red brick and white granite that stands out against the modern concrete of Nakanoshima. Einosuke Iwamoto, a stockbroker, donated one million yen in nineteen oh nine to fund its construction after hearing that Osaka lacked a venue for international cultural exchange. Architects Kingo Tatsuno and Yasushi Kataoka designed the building, blending neo-Renaissance details with a distinct copper-clad roof. It opened in nineteen eighteen and has served as the city's primary stage for decades.
