Place Seffarine

The Seffarine Square stays sunken below the level of the surrounding alleys, defined by the constant, rhythmic ringing of brass hammers against metal. It houses the city's coppersmiths, who have worked in these same stalls for nine centuries. Master craftsmen sit on the ground, shaping trays and bowls just as their ancestors did before the nearby Qarawiyyin Library opened. The smell of burning charcoal and raw metal hangs thick here, marking the place where Fes transforms raw copper into polished art.
