Bou Inania Madrasa

The Bou Inania Madrasa features a massive green-tiled minaret that towers over the dense maze of the Fes el-Bali medina. Sultan Abu Inan Faris commissioned the building in the mid-fourteenth century to serve as both a religious school and a congregational mosque. It remains the only madrasa in the city equipped with a full minbar and a mihrab for prayer. During its dedication, the Sultan reportedly threw the scrolls detailing the construction costs into the river, declaring that beauty cannot be measured.
