Hammam Mernissi resides within a heavy, unassuming wooden door set deep into the limestone walls of the Fes Medina. Inside, the air shifts instantly, thick with the scent of eucalyptus and damp, heated stone. Fatima Mernissi, the acclaimed Moroccan writer and sociologist, revitalized this space to preserve the tradition of the public bath as a social hub. While the city outside moves at a frantic pace, the interior remains a dim, vaulted sanctuary where the only sound is water hitting marble.
