Chemmaine Funduq

The Chemmaine Funduq wears a distinct, wide horseshoe arch that opens into a shaded, multi-story courtyard. Built in the seventeenth century, this structure provided shelter and warehouse space for merchants trading in dried fruits, especially raisins. Traders from the surrounding countryside would store their goods in the ground-floor rooms and sleep on the upper levels while they waited to sell their harvest. A single, large well sits at the center of the courtyard, where travelers once watered their pack mules after long journeys.
