Jnan Sbil

A massive wrought iron gate separates the frenetic pace of Fez from the dense canopy of Jnan Sbil. This garden began as an eighteenth century royal orchard for the Sultan Moulay Abdallah, serving as a private retreat from the city walls. It contains over three thousand plant species and a central water system that still runs through intricate tile channels. In the nineteen twenties, the French colonial administration opened the gates to the public, transforming the sultan's walled garden into a botanical park.
