Semmarin Medina Gate

The Semmarin Medina Gate features a massive, horseshoe-shaped arch framed by intricate, weathered carvings that have darkened over centuries. Sultan Abu Inan Faris commissioned this entrance in the fourteenth century to control the flow of goods and people into the royal city of Fes Jdid. Traders once unloaded their salt and textiles here under the watch of imperial guards. Today, the deep stone arch remains the primary threshold separating the dense, bustling old medina from the vast grounds of the royal palace.
