This shop has occupied the corner since nineteen fifty-nine, when a young Indonesian sailor named Dun Yong settled in Amsterdam. He began by selling hard-to-find ingredients from his home country to fellow immigrants. What started as a modest counter for spices and sauces grew into one of the largest Asian supermarkets in the city, bridging a gap for generations of local families.
