Museumhuis Bartolotti

The brick facade of Museumhuis Bartolotti rises above the Herengracht with a stepped gable that reaches further into the sky than its neighbors. Willem van den Heuvel, a wealthy merchant, commissioned this double house in the early seventeenth century. He adopted the name Bartolotti from a childless uncle who left him a massive inheritance. The architect, Hendrick de Keyser, gave the house its distinct Dutch Renaissance style, featuring ornate stone carvings that still decorate the exterior walls today.
