Geelvinck Pianola Museum

The Geelvinck Pianola Museum occupies a narrow canal house defined by its facade of weathered brick and a distinct, rounded doorway. Inside, a collection of self-playing pianos preserves the mechanical music technology of the early twentieth century. These instruments use perforated paper rolls to operate keys, allowing people to hear virtuosic performances exactly as they were recorded decades ago. Hans Geelvinck assembled this collection over many years, maintaining the intricate inner workings of machines that nearly vanished when home recording equipment became standard.
