Joods Monument Den Haag

Twelve concrete pillars stand in a circle on the Zuidwal, each inscribed with the name of a neighborhood in The Hague where Jewish residents once lived. Created by artist Dick Aerts, this monument marks the site where seventeen hundred Jewish citizens were gathered in nineteen forty-two before being deported to concentration camps. A bronze relief at the center depicts a broken chain, representing the community that was severed. The empty space within the circle remains a quiet, deliberate presence among the city traffic.
