The Aznavur Passage holds a stone facade carved with heavy, rounded arches that stand out against the narrow, sloping street of Tomtom. Built in eighteen ninety-three by the Armenian architect Hovsep Aznavuryan, the building served as a luxury apartment house for the city’s elite. During the nineteen eighties, the interior transformed into a vertical bazaar of small shops and tailors. A central staircase climbs through the heart of the structure, connecting floors that once held private residences and now hold narrow stalls.
