St Catharine's College sits flush against Trumpington Street, its three-sided main court opening directly onto the road. Robert Woodlark founded this college in fourteen seventy-three, but his original buildings vanished by the late seventeenth century. To replace them, the college undertook a rebuild that left the main gate without a tower or a dedicated chapel entrance facing the street. During the construction of the west range, the college ran out of money, leaving a gap that remains to this day.
