Silver Street Bridge

landmark

The Silver Street Bridge features distinctive iron filigree railings that curve outward, creating a recognizable silhouette against the River Cam. This current structure, completed in nineteen fifty-eight, replaced a series of earlier wooden and stone crossings that connected the town to the surrounding marshlands. When construction crews laid the foundations, they discovered the remnants of an ancient quay, suggesting that travelers have used this specific river crossing to reach the city center for over eight hundred years.
