This crossing serves as the primary gateway into the city center, following a path used since the Roman occupation. In eighteen twenty-three, the previous stone bridge collapsed into the river under the weight of a crowd during a local fair. The current structure replaced it, using metal to span the distance, and carriages have rattled across it ever since.
