The London Peace Pagoda

The London Peace Pagoda serves as a striking Buddhist monument situated directly on the banks of the River Thames. It was gifted to the city in 1985 by the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order, an organization founded by the monk Nichidatsu Fujii. Fujii, who earned the nickname Guruji from his close friend Mahatma Gandhi, dedicated his life to campaigning against nuclear weapons and violence after witnessing the destruction in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The pagoda stands as one of eighty such structures built globally to serve as a beacon of peace and a place for meditation.
