Cross Bones Graveyard sits quietly on Redcross Way, serving as a sanctuary for those the city once discarded. In its early days, this unconsecrated ground served as the final resting place for sex workers who were denied burial in churchyards. Because these women were licensed by the Bishop of Winchester to work within the local Liberty of the Clink, they earned the nickname Winchester Geese.
