Suffolk Place earns its name from the sixteenth century mansion that once dominated this specific footprint, known as Suffolk House. This residence served as the extravagant London home of Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk and brother-in-law to King Henry the Eighth. The Duke acquired the land by trading his own property elsewhere with the King, allowing him to construct a sprawling palace that featured immense galleries and multiple courtyards.
