Curving Road

cultural

Curving Road exists as an anomaly in the local street grid because it follows the precise path of an old, forgotten boundary ditch that once separated two large medieval estates. While most surrounding streets were laid out in straight lines during the nineteenth century, this path preserved the erratic bend of the earthwork long after the ditch itself was filled in and buried. Property lines along this road still align with those ancient territorial markers, forcing houses on the inner and outer curves to be built at unusual angles to accommodate the inherited geography.
