Walworth Town Hall

Walworth Town Hall began its life in eighteen sixty-five as the Newington Vestry Hall. At the time, the local vestry board was meeting in cramped rooms, including a local infant school and parish church, until civic leaders decided to commission this purpose-built headquarters. The project was financed by a loan from Edward Chambers Nicholson, a wealthy retired chemist who lived in the area. The building was designed by architect Henry Jarvis in a grand Italianate style, featuring a symmetrical seven-bay frontage on Walworth Road with stone columns and tall, arched windows.
