Sky Garden

The Sky Garden sits at the peak of the skyscraper at twenty Fenchurch Street, a building known by locals as the Walkie Talkie because of its unusual top-heavy profile. While it opened in two thousand fifteen, the tower quickly gained infamy for a phenomenon dubbed walkie-scorchie. Its curved, glass-clad facade acted like a giant concave mirror, focusing sunlight into intense beams that melted parts of cars parked on the street below. Engineers eventually fitted vertical fins to the building's exterior to diffuse the light and resolve the heat issue. Despite its dramatic arrival, the building was later awarded the Carbuncle Cup, a satirical prize given to the most unsightly new construction in the United Kingdom.
