You are standing near the site of one of Britain's most celebrated actors. Sir Alec Guinness was born here, in 1914, at 155 Lauderdale Mansions South. His birth certificate tells a mysterious story, as the field for his father's name was left completely blank. While speculation often linked him to the wealthy Guinness brewery family, he was actually supported by a Scottish banker named Andrew Geddes who occasionally visited him during his childhood while posing as an uncle.
