Surrey Square Nature Garden

Surrey Square Nature Garden is a small, quiet oasis that preserves the layout of a grand residential vision from the late eighteenth century. In seventeen ninety-two, the architect Michael Searles began building a sprawling, upscale development here meant to cater to London’s rapidly growing elite. He designed an elegant, oblong square, but the project faltered shortly after the first phase of terrace houses was completed. The grand vision of a complete, uniform square was never fully realized, leaving the space open and evolving over time rather than becoming the exclusive residential enclave Searles had originally planned.
