Menier Chocolate Factory

The building before you is the former Menier Chocolate Factory, constructed between eighteen sixty-five and eighteen seventy-four. It was built by a famous French chocolate company to serve as their main distribution and manufacturing hub for the British market. The exterior facade was intentionally designed with lavish decorative elements, including rusticated piers and stone cornices, to act as a permanent advertisement for the brand to anyone walking along the street. While the rear of the building features a more utilitarian design to accommodate the demands of heavy industrial work near the railway, the front was meant to project an image of prestige and quality.
