Frank Dobson Square

Frank Dobson Square occupies a site that was once the location of a significant seventeenth century residential development known as the Stepney Manor House. Following the extensive destruction caused by German bombing raids during the second world war, the area remained a desolate gap in the urban fabric for several decades. The square eventually took shape as a deliberate effort to provide communal green space for the local population living in the surrounding high density social housing estates. Its name honors Frank Dobson, a prominent Labour Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Holborn and Saint Pancras and dedicated his career to public service and urban improvement.
