Two hundred nineteen High Street carries a weathered stone facade that appears to sink slightly into the Royal Mile. This narrow structure houses the offices of the Scottish Seabird Centre, though it stands as one of the oldest surviving tenements in the city. Back in the seventeen hundreds, a printer named William Smellie set up his shop on these floors. He spent his days here typesetting the very first edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica while his neighbors argued over politics and ale.
