Wendler Building

The Wendler Building stands out for its weathered, two-story wooden facade and distinctive, steep-pitched gable roof, a stark contrast to the surrounding glass and concrete of downtown Anchorage. Originally built in nineteen fifteen as the Northern Hotel, it was later purchased by Arthur Wendler and became a central social hub for the early city. During a nineteen sixty-four earthquake, the building shifted off its foundation, yet it survived the disaster and remains one of the few original structures left in the city.
