Historic Anchorage City Hall

The white, two-story frame building at the corner of Fourth Avenue and E Street stands apart from the surrounding glass and steel with its simple, boxy profile. Built in nineteen thirty-six, it served as the original City Hall for Anchorage. During the nineteen sixty-four earthquake, the structure stayed upright while many others collapsed. Residents gathered here afterward to receive emergency news and food. It remains the oldest municipal building in the city, holding the history of the town within its wooden walls.
