Darwin's Theory

Darwin's Theory is a low-slung, cinder block building on Fifth Avenue with a faded sign depicting a prehistoric ape clutching a beer. Inside, the walls are covered in a chaotic collection of currency from around the world, photographs of regulars, and hunting trophies. It opened in nineteen seventy-eight as a working-class tavern. While the rest of downtown Anchorage shifted toward tourism and shiny corporate storefronts, this bar kept its original floorboards and a firm refusal to change its neon-lit interior.
