WWII Soldier Statue

monument

A bronze soldier in full combat gear kneels on a stone pedestal in the South Addition neighborhood. He holds a rifle, scanning the horizon rather than resting. This figure commemorates the soldiers who served at the nearby Elmendorf and Fort Richardson bases during the Second World War. When the sculpture arrived in nineteen forty-eight, local veterans organized its placement to anchor the quiet park. One veteran reportedly insisted the soldier face the direction of the front lines they once occupied.
