Anchorage Depot

The Anchorage Depot features a distinctive long, yellow wooden exterior with a gabled roof. Built in nineteen forty-two, it replaced a smaller station to accommodate the sudden influx of military personnel and equipment arriving during the Second World War. When the first train pulled into this station, it marked a shift in how the Alaska Railroad moved people across the territory. Railroad workers once operated the telegraph office here, sending messages that dictated the movement of every train on the tracks.
