The Loussac-Sogn Apartments stand out for their cream-colored concrete walls and the sharp, industrial lines of the fire escapes climbing the exterior. Built in nineteen forty-eight, this structure arrived when Anchorage faced a desperate housing shortage after the Second World War. Alfred Loussac, a pharmacist and former mayor, financed the project to house city workers. He hired architect E.R. Kvasnicka, who prioritized speed and durability over ornamentation, leaving the building with a minimalist look that contrasts with its surroundings.
