The Snowden Building stands out with its cream-colored masonry and the series of arched windows lining its upper story. When it opened in nineteen fifteen, it served as a primary hub for commerce in a fledgling Anchorage. Shortly after construction, the building housed the local post office, where gold miners and merchants gathered to wait for mail arriving by ship. Today, the street-level storefronts operate much as they did a century ago, maintaining the rhythm of trade on Fourth Avenue.
