Oscar Anderson House Museum

The Oscar Anderson House features a steep, shingled roof and sits as the oldest residence in downtown Anchorage. Built in nineteen fifteen, it survived the city's early years when most settlers lived in canvas tents. Oscar Anderson, a Swedish butcher, paid twelve hundred dollars to construct this home for his growing family. He arrived on the first ship to enter the harbor, and his house remains a rare piece of the original town site that escaped demolition during the mid-century urban expansion.
