The Federal Office Building at 50 United Nations Plaza serves as a stately anchor for the eastern edge of the San Francisco Civic Center. Completed in 1936, the structure acts as the final piece of the ambitious Civic Center master plan that was born from the ashes of the 1906 earthquake. Its architect, Arthur Brown Junior, also designed the city's iconic City Hall and the War Memorial Opera House, tying these major government buildings together through a shared language of Beaux-Arts classicism.
