Precita Eyes Muralists

landmark

The name Precita Eyes comes from a local geographic feature rather than an abstract concept. The muralists took their name from Precita Valley, which itself was named after Precita Creek. That creek once flowed through the area, but the United States Army Corps of Engineers eventually filled it in. The word Precita is a diminutive form of the Spanish word presa, meaning dam, making the name a literal reference to a little dam that once stood in the valley.
