During the nineteen fifties and sixties, this room functioned as the city’s premier venue for hard bop and avant-garde jazz. Miles Davis recorded a famous live album here, and John Coltrane performed within these walls. The club eventually closed in nineteen seventy-eight, marking the end of an era where musicians played nightly sets for packed, smoky crowds in this narrow North Beach space.
