The Lincoln Park Steps serve as a monumental gateway to the western reaches of the city. Originally constructed in the early twentieth century, these fifty-two wide concrete stairs were designed to provide neighborhood access to the expansive grounds of the Lincoln Park Golf Course and the nearby Legion of Honor. For many years, the site suffered from severe neglect, characterized by deep cracks, significant erosion, and frequent vandalism that made the pathway hazardous for local students and commuters.
