Joan of Arc - The Maid of Orleans

landmark

The bronze statue of Joan of Arc standing in Lincoln Park is a near exact replica of a work created by the French sculptor Emmanuel Fremiet. The original statue was commissioned by the city of Paris in the late nineteenth century to stand in the Place des Pyramides near the spot where Joan was wounded during the siege of Paris. San Francisco received this specific casting as a gift from the French government in the early twentieth century to commemorate the soldiers from California who fought for France during the First World War.
