Lobos Creek

Lobos Creek serves as the final free-flowing stream in all of San Francisco. While the rest of the city saw its natural waterways paved over or funneled into subterranean storm drains, this creek persists as a rare, exposed vein of water. It originates from underground seepage and runoff, winding its way through the Presidio before emptying into the Pacific Ocean between Baker Beach and China Beach. The name Lobos comes from the Spanish phrase for sea lion, a nod to the marine life that once frequented the nearby coast.
